MUSIC UPLOAD QUESTIONS

What is considered explicit content?

Musicati uses common industry standards, outlined by the FCC and the RIAA, as the base for all its decisions regarding explicit content. These are words that are sexually, violently, etc., explicit in nature. While there are many areas that are not so cut and dry when dealing with explicit content, Musicati will review each submitted album in accordance with, or as close to, the standards outlined by music industry organizations the RIAA and the FCC. It is with cues taken from these organizations that the Musicati team makes its final decision on whether or not to mark an album ‘Explicit’.

See the RIAA’s site: http://www.riaa.com/parentaladvisory.php and the FCC’s site: http://www.fcc.gov/eb/oip/FAQ.html for a more detailed explanation.

Why aren't there more choices when choosing my band and/or album genre?

The genre list is taken right from the jukebox itself; so you'll have to choose the most appropriate genre for your band or song, otherwise the jukebox's system won't be able to search for you by genre.

Is there a way I can listen to my songs on the Web site to make sure that they are correct before I submit them?
Once a track is uploaded successfully, we have a streaming playback that will appear underneath them. Just select the play button static play button image and you’ll be able to listen to exactly what we hear when we begin the approval process.

I uploaded my tracks successfully, but now they show that they were not approved, what happened?

If one of the tracks on your Musicati album is denied, we will inform you of the exact reason upon denial, and will work with you to get it corrected. We want your music to be heard, so we’ll work with you to get the album to the approved status.

Some common things that the Musicati team listens for are any tracks that contain corrupt audio (scratches, blips, sound cutting out, no sound/empty tracks, or other similar distractions), non-music tracks (interview content, spoken-word, or audio done in a style resembling documentary footage), and tracks that contain samples and/or covers. If any of these are found, we will deny the track. If you do not specify that a track is explicit, but it turns out to be, or if your artwork or title is corrupt, this will also cause a denial.

LICENSING QUESTIONS

If I upload songs, do I get paid royalties? If so, how do I get paid?
Yes! Musicati will give you the same treatment as the major label bands that we deal with. Royalties are on an MFN (most favored nations) basis and therefore all publishers, including the big guys are getting the exact same royalty rate. Royalties are paid quarterly, within 45 days after the close of the quarter. Royalty rates are $0.005 per play with a $50 threshold for payment. So when your song gets played, you get paid!

Musicati’s contract is 100% non-exclusive. What you want to do with your music is your business; what we want to do with your music is put it out there for all to hear. Click here for a copy of the terms in PDF format.

What happens when the contract term is up?
When your contract term is up, you will be able to renew your music for another term. If you decide not to renew your term, we will take that Musicati Album off the network, though it will remain as part of your discography. If you ever feel like renewing it in the future, you can add it at any time.

What if I don’t have a publisher?
No publisher, no problem. You become the publisher. When you sign up, we can use you as the publisher. That means that any royalties that you may get will go straight to you!
